PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
Follow your dreams, pass the passion on to others, be dive-bound not desk-bound! Clearly you love diving or you wouldn't have got to this page and you're here because you want to go that step further.
Full-time or Part-time, warm-water or more temperate climes, it matters not. Teaching diving is just incredible.
So how do you get there? There are 3 parts:
- Knowledge Development - use the IDC Crewpack and online theory to prepare your knowledge base before the IDC starts
- The IDC is - completed by our PADI Course Director
- The Instructors Exams - run by PADI after your IDC
You need to pass the IDC to go on to the IE (Instructor Exams) and you need to pass these to become a PADI Instructor. So not an easy task but rewarding beyond belief.
Who can become and instructor?
- You need to be a minimum of 18 - there's no maximum!
- You need 60 logged dives to take part in the IDC and 100 logged dives to attend an IE
- Your First Aid & CPR certificate needs to be up to date which means within the last 24 months
- You'll need a Medical Statement signed by a Doctor within the last 12 months
- You will also need Emergency First Response Instructor Rating, which we will organise during your instructor training
How long does it take?
9 days back to back at our dive centre in Plymouth. This is a mixture of classroom workshops, pool sessions and sea-based teaching (quarry fees not included in the event that the sea state is not suitable)
What the course covers:
Frankly we'll be teaching you everything you need to know to be a successful PADI Instructor. A toolbox full of teaching skills, diving skills, techniques and knowledge. You will know your way around the PADI system, how to problem solve, schedule, cost, organise courses and most importantly of all teach diving to the highest of standards.

- £1250 - this covers your IDC -and includes the Instructor Development Course, Emergency First Response Instructor course, EFRI Crewpack, Online Dive Theory and as much air as you can breathe.
- Or £1750 for the package above plus MSDT prep (Master Scuba Diver Training) which teaches you how to teach 5 speciality courses.
- Also required is the PADI IDC Crew pack £600, you can select your preferred course with crewpack above.
Costs paid direct to PADI (2023 prices):
- The IE (Instructor Exam) is £738
- Your Instructor application is £211.20
- EFR instructor application £132
- MSDT Application fee TBC
